In the year 2 of Shokei period (1333) the army of the Kamakura Shogunate Government (Kishū influence) suffered the attack of Kusunoki Masashige, causing the death or injury of more than 50 worriers. The fact that the Kishū was defeated is written in an old document known as the “Kusunoki ga Kassen Chumon” (Records of the Battle with the Kusunoki clan). At this time, the Nagaretani Hachiman Shrine was burned down and reconstructed later, but those old documents were carefully protected.
