Shimo-iwaze

Shimo-iwaze

The Kōya Kaido goes down from Ishibotoke-dera Temple to the south, following a steep slope known as “Torii-saka” up to Amami-gawa river. It continues to Shimo-iwaze-mura Ochikata, on the on the opposite shore, going south by the Amami-gawa river, crossing the river by the Kodachi Bridge(★)and going towards Shimizu-mura village. However, nowadays it is a difficult area to identify the road due to the construction of the railways, etc. Therefore, the former national route No.371 was considered as the Kōya Kaido.
