Gachirin-ji Temple

Gachirin-ji Temple

The Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha) of the Gachirin-ji temple and the legend of the Morokoshi (confection made with azuki bean flour and sugar) wealthy man.
Kōbo Daishi (Kukai), at the time of his ascetic practices at the Makiosan Mountain, he used to stay from time to time, at the so called morokoshi chōja (wealthy man of morokoshi trade) in Nagano village. Once Kōbo Daishi himself made and gave him a statue of the Yakushi Nyorai. The wealthy man was very happy, and every morning and evening worshipped this statue. Afterwards, his wife, who was from Mikkaichi, built there a temple and placed the Yakushi Nyorai statue there as the principal object of worship.
